RMT’s are eligible to apply to become an approved massage provider to New Zealand Academy of Sport (NZAS). The Academy provides sports medicine and sports science support services to NZ’s elite athletes with massage being one of the services that carded athletes are eligible to receive. New NZAS massage providers are appointed on a needs basis only so even if you are an RMT, if the supply of massage services in your area is already met by existing Academy providers, the Academy is unlikely to make new appointments. The Therapeutic Massage Association (TMA) and The Massage Institute of NZ (MINZI) merged to form Massage New Zealand (MNZ) in 2006
Massage New Zealand is a member of the New Zealand Charter of Health Practitioners (NZCHP). MNZ members can become members of NZCHP. For further information please contact the Charter’s Office Manager Ph 09 414 5501 or email@healthcharter.org.nz.
Southern Cross Medical Care Society has a “Wellbeing” health insurance policy which includes “Wellbeing Modules”. These ‘add-ons’ give more tailored health cover, and include a “Body Care” Module.
From 1 July 2008 this Module permits members to claim up to $400.00 per year for Remedial Massage Therapy. This is defined as massage deemed medically necessary and undertaken by a RMT.
